Installation FAQ

Windows 7 vs. Excel database server connection.
Customer has Windows 7 operating system and can't connect to the server containing analysis database using windows authentication in excel. What could be the problem?

One possible solutions is user account control modification.
Go to the Start Menu -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Change User Account Control Settings and set the bar to the lowest level!.

BI4Dynamics Trial does not start up.
Please check the Software Requirements (listed at: www.bi4dynamics.com/trial)

Most common problem: not installed .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or newer).

BI4Dynamics on new operating systems (WinSer. 08, Win. 7)
After successful installation an error occurs when running BI4Dynamics.exe file: Critical Error URI-formats are not supported

User Account Control (UAC) can be causing various problems when launching applications, even though the user is an administrator.
First you can try to run the application »as an administrator«. To do that, open up »C:\Program Files (x86)\BI4Dynamics«, right-click on BI4Dynamics.exe and select »Run as administrator«.
If that doesn't work, go to Control Panel > User Accounts and disable UAC for your user. Restart the machine and try launching the application.

What are Software requirements for BI4Dynamics?

  • Windows Server 2003 or 2008
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 (Standard/Enterprise/Development version)

Can you install BI4Dynamics on MS SQL Server 2000?
Yes, but this is a custom implementation, meaning that there is no wizard installation, only English version is available (partner needs to do the localization) and higher price (app. 50 %).

Can you choose language for Microsoft Dynamics NAV data?
Yes. During installation setup language is set. All attributes, dimensions and measures are localized.

Can you write back data?
No.

How can you manage user permissions (rights)?
User rights are managed in Microsoft Analysis Server or your BI tool.

Is it possible to get data from different servers?
Yes.

Can you build a virtual cube?
Yes.

Can you drill down to open a view in Microsoft Dynamics?
This is not a standard feature in BI4Dynamics NAV, although it is possible to specify actions in Microsoft Analysis Services (Navision Attain 3.xx and later).

Can you handle multiple hierarchies?
Yes.

Do you use standard Microsoft Dynamics NAV dimensions?
Yes, out-of-the-box solution supports 8 global dimensions. Unlimited number of dimensions can be added.

Can you add a field as a dimension to the OLAP cube?
Yes.

Do you have a specification of OLAP cubes and fields?
Yes.

How deep can you drill down in data from Microsoft Dynamics NAV?
You can go all the way to the level of ledger entry.

Which front-end client tool can we use to present and analyze information?
BI4Dynamics NAV data can be viewed with any front-end client that can read OLAP cubes data or connect to SQL Server database to view it, e.g. Microsoft Office Excel, PerformancePoint, ProClarity, Cognos, TargIT, Panorama.
